Many wade fishermen that
visit Rim Shoals walk the railroad tracks or traverse the
islands in low water to access the river. Train tracks can
be dangerous and put walkers in a trespassing situation. Island
hoppers can get stranded if the water comes up unnoticed.
A natural game path that begins near the walk-in access and runs parallel to
the river has slowly expanded as fishermen use the trail. The path has recently
been cut back and opens nearly a mile of river walk-in access.
The aerial photo above was taken from the south side of the river. Rim Shoals and
the walk-in access are upriver (to the left) just outside the picture frame. You
can see the bottom of the first island (left), the middle island and most of the
lower island where the catch and release ends.
The Cotter High School club, Tanflies, along with Gary and
Henry, have worked on the trail this winter and created 13 access points to the river.
We hope to post signs and produce a map in the near future.
